 Introduction to HTML-Kit Plugins
By Mark Cunningham     [ Translations: auf Deutsch | en Espa?ol ]

What is a plugin?

Plugins are basically features that can be added to HTML-Kit. A quick look at some examples of what plugins can be or do is:

  • Execute batch actions on multiple files at one time, such as replace text. You can even delete multiple files.
  • Assist you with your HTML coding.
  • Help with your PHP code such as apply consistent indentation of your code.
  • Add options to the right-click menu to help choose that just right color.
  • And many, many more!

How do I find a plugin?

The best place to start is on the Plugins Directory page on the HTML-Kit web site. Plugins are grouped several different ways to assist you in finding just the right one to meet your needs. You can of course simply use the search feature on the HTML-Kit web site. Feel free to look around and see all that's available.

What do the lower case letters in the plugin name mean?

You'll notice that most plugin names begin with lower case letters. These are the initials of the plugin author.

Who makes these plugins?

Plugins are made by individuals like you and me who have an interest in making HTML-Kit the best HTML editor it can be. The idea for a plugin is usually generated out of a specific need or request. The plugin author maintains all copyrights to their plugin.

Can I create my own plugin?

Absolutely. Get started with the HTML-Kit Plugins Generator.

How do I know exactly what a plugin does?

Click on the link to a given plugin. On the plugins page there is a description of what the plugin actually does.

How do I install a plugin?

Plugins are usually very simple to install. Installation of a plugin can vary, but in most cases it only involves downloading a zip file and using HTML-Kit's install feature, locate the zip file and select it. You may need to close and restart HTML-Kit to use many, but not all, plugins. HTML-Kit will prompt you to restart it if necessary. Specific installation instructions for a plugin are found on each plugins web page.

Can I uninstall a plugin?

Yes. Although the actual uninstall procedure can vary, in most cases you simply right-click on the plugin icon on the toolbar and select "Uninstall." The actual uninstall procedure can be found on the specific plugins web page.

How do I request a new plugin or feature?

Requests for new plugins and features can be made on the Plugins Wish List page. You can even vote for a plugin or feature that's already been suggested! Please keep in mind that there is no guarantee that a plugin will be created just because someone asks for it.

How do I give feedback?

There is a feedback form located near the bottom of each plugins page. You can also let the author and others know how you rank a plugin. You can also see what other users have to say about plugins on the Plugins Feedback page.

I need some help!

There are several ways to seek assistance,

  • The plugin section of the FAQs
  • The Plugins Newsgroups
  • There are also support options listed on each plugins page "Support" section.
