Issue: Some text files on FTP servers open with double spaced lines
The information in this document applies to:
 Symptoms
Some text files on FTP servers may open with double spaced lines in the editor.

 Cause
Most likely these text files were uploaded using an external FTP client in binary transfer mode instead of text/ASCII transfer mode.

 Solution
When uploading text files using external FTP clients, make sure that the text/ASCII transfer mode is being used, instead of the binary mode which is for transferring images, sound files and other binary/non-text files.

 Details

Windows, UNIX and Macintosh operating system platforms may use different characters to indicate the end of lines in text files. When transferring text files between systems running different operating systems (for example, when transferring a HTML file that was edited on Windows to a server running on UNIX), the text/ASCII transfer mode should be used to make sure that line end characters are properly converted according to the operating system platform.

This is not an issue when using HTML-Kit's FTP Workspace to upload and download files, as it automatically changes the file transfer mode according to the file type.

If a text file was originally uploaded in binary mode while using an external FTP client, it should be uploaded again in text/ASCII mode, before opening it in HTML-Kit or other similar application. If this is not an option, open the local copy of the file in HTML-Kit using the "File | Open" main menu option and upload it to the FTP server so that HTML-Kit can transfer the text file in text/ASCII mode.
